“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
I saw this quote over on Soulemama's blog, and after googling it came across a range of inspirational quotes and poems by Mary Oliver. This extract really sums up how I felt during 2012, a year in which I made some big changes. I will carry this forward into 2013:
...there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.”
This poem feels particularly poignant at the start of this New Year. A year for which I have so many dreams, so much hope.
“When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.
When it is over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.
I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.”
Above all, I want to do three things this year: Imagine, Create, Record. All the resolutions I could write here would fall into that simple three word list. Happy New Year!
