Lovely weekend...and Peanut's gifts

I've just come back from a lovely weekend in Yorkshire with Miles. We stayed on a campsite run by the Forestry Commission on the North York Moors. We had a bit of a false start that resulted in us driving around the Moors for over two hours, before eventually finding our way back to Pickering, calling the campsite, and being there 15 minutes later. If only we'd phoned for directions before we left. Oops!

Anyway, the drive was a bit scary as we really were totally lost, but the scenery was amazing. There were sheep wondering across roads, and in one of the small villages we drove through, a Shetland pony grazing on someone's front lawn. We were both glad to have found the campsite though, and I set about cooking us some dinner, while Miles showed his masculine side, by setting up the barbeque he'd bought us to keep us both warm in the evenings.Yesterday morning, we drove up to Whitby, and had a walk along the seafront and through the old town.
Then we drove South to Robin Hood's Bay, where we decided we might make it down the hill, but definitely wouldn't make back up, so stopped for ice cream instead. These photos don't do justice to the beautiful weather we had all weekend. After such a gloomy summer it was really nice to get outside into the sunshine.
After Robin Hood's Bay we drove down to Scarborough, wandered through town and bought some food for the barbeque. Miles cooked me a delicious dinner back at the campsite> Unfortunately I've got some work to do this evening so I had to leave York early this afternoon, so we left the Moors and headed back to York late this morning, had some lunch, then I came home. Ah, I should mention that Miles is leaving York at the end of this month. He's been accepted onto a pilot training scheme, so he's moving to Coventry for 5 years. I'm going to really miss visiting Yorkshire, but it'll be much easier for me to visit Miles as Coventry is so much closer than York.
I arrived home to an email from Nic to say that her Peanut's gift had arrived, so I can blog it at last!
So, here's the cardigan:
And the booties:
And here they are with the trousers I bought to match:
It's a good thing Nic likes stripes! I've been knitting the second front of Katherine's wrap cardigan on the train to London today. I don't think it should take too long, I've only got the sleeves left to knit after this piece is complete.

Another present to post

I feel like I'm a baby knitting machine at the moment. I've got one more pair of bootees or possibly socks to knit, and half Katherine's cardigan to be finished by 15th August, then I'll be knitting myself some presents for a while I think. I've started to get a bit stressed about all the baby knitting. I've been avoiding sewing up Nic's Peanut's presents for a couple of weeks now. I've finally finished the set this evening, and they'll be going in the post tomorrow morning. Hopefully Nic will receive them on Thursday and then I can blog them properly. I'm really pleased with this set.

Anyway, here's a sneaky peak to wet your appetite!

Finished Hooded Jacket

I finished knitting the hooded jacket for Pumpkin's nephew-in-situ this morning, and the sewing up this evening. I'm really pleased with this. I've wanted to knit it for someone for a while, just didn't know who for, so I'm glad Pumpkin commissioned me to knit it.I'm hoping hoodies aren't banned in the shopping malls of Detroit, MI, otherwise someone's going to be in trouble!
Right, I have a couple of pairs of bootees to knit, Katherine's birthday present to finish, then it's onto something for me I think, before I'm swallowed by a sea of baby knits!

Hoody progress

Pumpkin's nephew's hoody is progressing well. I cast on at the weekend, and this morning it looked like this:I've knitted about an inch of the hood now so I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the coming weekend.

Still here, still knitting

Oh dear. I've done it again haven't I? Neglected my blog for so long that I've had comments and emails to check that I'm ok. Well, yes, I'm fine. I started my new job 4 weeks ago and it really has been a busy few weeks with training courses, inductions, and so much new stuff to learn. I'm loving it :o) And I get home at 6.30 which means I have evenings again. Obviously, I *should* have been blogging, but, well...no, I really have no reason for not blogging. I've been taking photos to blog. I've been to places that deserved to be blogged. But I just haven't done it. Best just to move on, with a pledge that now I'm settled in my new job, I will try to blog more often.

So, while I haven't been blogging, I have most definitely been knitting. I was making good progress on the pink/purple cotton jumper for Leila, then I cast on a wrap cardigan for Katherine's first birthday on 15th August. Sorry for the terrible photo!Progress on this has halted for a while, as I received a couple of commissions. My ex-flatmate Ellie has an older sister who lives in Perth, Australia. She recently gave birth to a daughter, Maria and her Mother emailed me a couple of weeks ago to say she had struggled to knit a cardigan for Maria, had a couple of balls of yarn left over, and could I knit a hat to match the cardigan. It's knitted in Rowan Denim yarn, has been washed this evening to shrink it as instructed and is currently drying before being sewn up.Commission number two is from Pumpkin, whose sister (in Michigan) is expecting a son in October, and is having a baby shower in early August. We went shopping for yarn on Friday night, and I've been knitting so much on this jacket today that I'm now feeling rather dizzy! The sleeves, fronts and back are knitted and have now been joined to knit the yoke and hood. I'm going to try not to be sidetracked by other projects this week so that I can hopefully have it finished by the end of the week. Although with this new skein of Koigu hanging around, that may be a problem! I bought this to make some matching socks or bootees, but...I. Must. Resist. Hmmm.Speaking of my new job, when I left my old job I was given what many a knitter would love to receive:4 skeins of Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb, colourway 'Vera' waiting to be knit into a Clapotis. Perfect. I just have a few other things I *must* knit first!

I made a lovely purchase yesterday. A new Cath Kidston shop opened in Kingston yesterday morning, and after spending most of the day in Stash Yarns I headed back to the new shop where I found this lovely knitting bag in the sale. I'm more than a little in love with it.
Coming soon, Woolfest, welly walks and stash additions. Once again, it's good to be back.
