'Clapotis' moves to Maine...and takes Leigh with her

Posted by Picasa

When my fab friend Leigh moved to Maine earlier this month, I wanted her to have something to remember me by.

So I asked Trudie (http://www.hipknits.co.uk) to dye some silk in Leigh's favourite colours of pink, purple and blue and I set about knitting a Clapotis. What I hadn't realised was just how loooooong Clapotis is. Public Health Warning: when knitting to a deadline, be aware of how loooooong the pattern is!

So, there I was, with cramps in my shoulders and pains shooting up my wrist, but, oh so close to finishing when.......argh, crisis, I had forgotten to drop a row down each side. Not only that, I had already dropped the sets of stitches on either side. So, not only did I have to pick back about, er, 20 rows, I also had to pick up all the stitches I had dropped in two places, right to the bottom of the scarf. Yes, that's 80 inches of stitches to pick up. Twice. Argh!

But I did manage it, finishing the scarf at 7am on the day of Leigh's leaving party. Phew. And if I do say so myself, it looks pretty fabulous. More importantly, Leigh thinks so too. I hear she's even been wearing it to the shooting range on a morning. Rosie may be the best dressed toddler in the North-West, but I'm in no doubt that Leigh is the best-dressed gal on the shootin' range.

We may be thousands of miles apart, on opposite sides of the world, but I know Clapotis is keeping my best friend warm and giving her hugs until I see her again.

Stay warm and snuggly Pumpkin x

And here's the detail

'Roses for Rosie'

Thought I'd post a photo of the Christening present I made for Rose last year. Her parents, Ann-Marie and Kevin had a second daughter, Amelia last Thursday, so Congratulations to them. I'm knitting a hat and bootees for Millie at the moment, so they'll be posted soon.

The Christening pressie was a pair of shoes knitted in Jaegar Baby Merino double knit. The pattern is in Debbie Bliss' Baby Style. The pattern for the rose is in Rowan Babies by Kim Hargreaves. I bought the frame from Ikea, painted it, made a mount from pale pink card and added a square of handmade paper behind the shoes. Then I wrote a poem, found in 'One hundred poems for the Soul'.

Last time I visited Ann-Marie and Rosie, it was hanging on the nursery wall, which was lovely to see. I'll have to think of something to make for Millie's Christening...I guess I have a few months to think of something. Oh, of course I should really finish her bootees and hat first!

Loopy and Luscious...

...No, not a reference to my personality (although, hmm, now I think about it...) but the name of the rather lovely pattern I'm using for the scarf pictured in the previous post. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/PATTloopy.html

It's a very simple pattern, worked backwards and forwards on a circular needle. It isn't as fast to knit as I thought it would be, probably because using a laceweight yarn on a 12mm needle takes some getting used to. Oh, and the 12mm Addi Turbo sometimes has to be wrestled with...but it's so much fun!

Hello

Welcome to my Blog. I hope you enjoy looking at what's on, and off, my needles. As a little introduction, here's a pic of me in The Forth pub last night, at Miss Spiritual Tramp's knitting club, with a WIP. What do you think? I'm not sure how well the detail shows. It's a pattern from knitty, knit in Colinette One Zero (Cherry) and Rowan Kidsilk Haze (Wicked...I think...it's black anyway). It's knit on a rather fabulous 12mm circular Addi Turbo... my new favourite thing!
